About Ashley

“Cybermedia will make every man his own editor, which in turn makes every writer a fool. The Internet will transmit misinformation very efficiently. We will miss the gatekeepers.”

–Neal B. Freeman, National Review, Dec. 11, 1995

I’ve been trying not to make a fool of myself on the Internet since March 2009, when Fashionably Fit launched as a healthy living and weight loss blog. I am very passionate about weight loss and lifestyle changes, having lost more than 100 pounds in the last five years. I decided to start working out and living healthfully in May 2005, at the end of my junior year in college. I weighed just over 300 pounds. I am 5 feet, 8 inches tall.  You can read all about my weight loss  here.

Many of recipes and food posted here isn’t what you’d associate with weight loss — and that’s why I write this blog. I used to eat Doritos and candy bars and entire pizzas and then wonder why I was so fat. Now I appreciate good food and am fascinated by the science of baking. I believe that learning about nutrition and to appreciate food is why I’ve been able to maintain my weight loss.

Fashionably Fit is so named because fashion was the primary reason I started working out. I wanted to wear cute dresses and pretty blouses and skinny cropped pants. I’d been overweight since age 5 and had tried to lose weight multiple times with little or no success. I was also a journalism major with delusions of grandeur and hopes of working at a fashion magazine, and I figured I should be able to wear the couture I wanted to write about. Fashion writers and editors are not typically 300-pound, size 24W women.

I am originally from western Pennsylvania and currently reside in fabulously sunny Florida with my husband. Since I lost weight, I’m constantly freezing, and Florida has provided a welcome respite from three-foot snow drifts, ice storms and miserably gray, gloomy days.

Please note that I have zero credentials in fitness or nutrition (and fashion for that matter). This blog is based on my own weight loss experiences, and what worked for me may not work for you. You should always consult a physician before beginning any diet or exercise regimen.
